A 3D Golf Training and Biomechanical
Analysis System
For the Professional Golf Coach and Entrepreneur
SKILLTEC's
3D-GOLF™ is a computer aided 3D golf training and biomechanics
analysis system. The movement patterns of a golf swing are
captured by computer and displayed on a monitor, in real-time. The system displays the motion
of a golfer’s body using animated fully rendered three-dimensional mannequin
models. The resulting motion data is presented to the student and coach in the
form of animated graphs. These graphs (angles, positions etc.) move synchronously
with the animated 3D computer models of the golfer’s swing and are displayed
on the computer monitor. Viewing the real-time animated models and graphs instantly
reports the magnitude and quality of the dynamics of the swing. Parameters,
such as ‘X-factor’, shoulder tilt or hip movement can be viewed during a training
and analysis session. Swing dynamics can be displayed, diagnosed and then corrected
by the coach.
After a swing the SKILLTEC
3D-GOLF™ system displays important swing
parameters at landmark positions, such as address, top-of-back-swing, impact
and the finish. Students can view
themselves at the address position
and as they begin the back-swing sequence they can see how they deviate from
the prescribed path. The system, at the top-of-back swing position, identifies
and reports relevant angles and positions that the student needs to maintain
for their swing style and body type. When the club head strikes the ball a sound
switch marks the point of impact. After the swing is complete the computer marks
the finish position. The student can again review his/her performance. During
instant play-back a critical review of the student’s technique can be made and
the scope and magnitude of all parameters can be viewed and documented.
Additionally, SKILLTEC
3D-GOLF™ 3D-GOLF™ incorporates a training
mode that uses audible biofeedback
tones. This is a feature that allows the coach to define the
parameters of a performance envelope. A performance envelope is used to nominate
the boundaries of the intended paths and movement zone of the golfer’s body
motion and swing trajectories. The performance envelope is the domain that the
student is to be guided through during any designated segment of the golf swing
sequence. The golf coach has the option to tell the system what limits to set.
For the benefit of the student the total training session, in the form of tables and graphs, can be printed out on paper for performance reviews and progress documentation. The whole training session can also be recorded onto video tape and taken home for later study at the student’s convenience.
SKILLTEC 3D-GOLF™ 3D-GOLF™ System provides the golf coach with the additional capability of examining motion by continually re-animating and reviewing previously captured student motion data and comparing it with current data. Control of the animation process provides the golf coach with a flexible new technique for observing and analyzing the intricate 3D patterns of the golf swing. The swing can be viewed from various directions, the front, back, left side, right side, top and bottom. For the professional coach’s analytical and statistical use the system can compile a full and comprehensive database of all students tested. This can be a personal and proprietary database. Significant swing parameters can be recorded, compared and used to improve future performance. All SKILLTEC 3D-GOLF™ System data files are stored in tab delimited ASCII format so they can be easily read into a spreadsheet or database for further analysis.
System Benefits
Real-time data collection and 3D graphic modeling capabilities take advantage of the latest computer techniques to make training sessions and golf motion studies an everyday convenience. Calibration frames, cameras and precise lighting conditions are not required. However, the system can be integrated with video for viewing and recording purposes, if required. The SKILLTEC 3D-GOLF™ System is self-calibrating, it electronically aligns itself at the touch of a button, automatically, before each training session begins. Because of the electromagnetic technology employed, the human body is transparent to the system and data points will never get lost, as they do with video systems. Interpolation of data is also not required because there are no missing data. Tedious digitizing, identification of fragmented trajectories and post-processing of data files are unnecessary. 3D motion data, including position, speed and rotation are available immediately after the training test swing is captured.
The SKILLTEC 3D-GOLF™ is not only an excellent training tool but it is also a very accurate golf research system. It is very easy to use – yet very powerful.
Systems can be configured with up to 16 sensors to track every part and joint of the body
